Will It Last?

You thought everything was perfect... and then he broke up with you. If only you saw it coming! Watch for these signs, and you may not have to be the last to know.

He's a player.

The player likes to make a scene, but not really be part of it. He does all the right-romantic things, but doesn't want to stick around to find out how you're feeling. "Relationship talks give me the creeps," admits Shah, 29, an investment advisor. "As soon as I know she's into me, I lose interest." This is the kind of guy who will lay it on thick to get what he wants, then disappear.

He's in love -- with someone else.

This one is usually easy to detect. But sometimes you lose your objectivity. Explains Venu, a 25-year-old teacher. "My parents set me up with one of our family friends' sons. I had a crush on him since I was like, six. So I chose to ignore the fact that he called his ex-girlfriend before and after every date. Needless to say, it didn't work out, and they eventually got married."

He's too easy-going.

He let's you choose the movie, waits for you to call, and never complains. Think he's into you? Wrong. He's not even there. "I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to break-ups," says Shivan, a 25-year old DJ. "So I start to tune out, and stop making an effort." Guys like Ajay don't like confrontation, so they avoid it. Eventually, they'll start avoiding you.

He's commitment shy.

Ahhh the classic. This guy is almost every guy until he's the one for you. How can you tell he's not ready for the next step? He doesn't introduce you to his friends or family. He hesitates to make plans for next month, or even next weekend. Salima shares her story. "After 6 months of dating, I invited my boyfriend over to meet my older brother. He totally freaked. My brother wasn't impressed, and neither was I." Give this guy some space and let the relationship grow. However, if this is still happening several months into the game, then you may have a problem.
